Pastor's Corner

The elderly couple stood at a busy junction. They had a placard with graphic pictures of an aborted foetus. They were making a stand on abortion.
This incident got me thinking.
What does God think and say about issues like abortion, euthanasia, war and environment? Does God have an opinion on these? I believe so.
If this is still our Father’s world, He would not leave us groping in the dark. So, does the Bible address any of these issues plaguing our modern world today?
We would be stretching it to say that the Bible addresses all the modern topics of today. However, the Bible does have principles to guide us make biblical judgements on today’s morals and ethics.
While the Roman Catholic church struggles to be consistent in implementation of her said beliefs (as seen in the recent abuses and scandals), the Protestant church, on the other hand, is so divided in our opinions that some of her followers have concluded, ‘everyone is right in some way, who are we to judge?” This is essentially a stand of no stand (if you get my pun).
“He who stands for nothing will fall for anything,” so said Alexander Hamilton (1755 – 1804).
We live in a complex world. The issues facing our generations are not simplistic.
However, it is the duty and call of the disciple to study the Scriptures and search for God’s mind and will and live in accordance with it.
This calls for a diligence study of both Scriptures and the world’s issues. It spells hard work.
May God help us to be serious, clear convicted followers of His in our times.
